Liberty Men's XC Opens Season at No. 7 in SE

The Liberty men's cross country team is ranked No. 7 in the NCAA Southeast Region to open the 2018 season, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Flames placed seventh at the 2017 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, marking the team's best regional finish since 2012.

Liberty returns three of its top four performers from that meet, including senior Azaria Kirwa (third place), redshirt junior James Zentmeyer (43rd) and sophomore Augostine Lisoreng (69th). Kirwa went on to earn All-America honors with a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

The Flames and Lady Flames will open the 2018 season at Friday's Virginia Tech Invitational. The meet will take place at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va., with the women's 4K scheduled for 6 p.m. and the men's 6K to follow at 6:30.

This year's NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships will be hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., Nov. 9.
