Former Flames standout golfer Mickey DeMorat will make his second professional appearance this weekend at the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship.
DeMorat was one of four golfers to qualify for the final regular season stop on the PGA Tour's 2018-19 schedule when he finished first in a Monday qualifying event.
DeMorat fired a bogey-free 6-under par 65 at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Bermuda Run, N.C., finishing one shot clear of four golfers tied with a 5-under par 66. James Driscoll, Stewart Jolly and T.J. Vogel claimed the final three Monday qualifying spots in a playoff.
With the Monday qualifying medalist honors, DeMorat will now tee it up against the PGA Tour's best at the Wyndham Championship. The event will be contested Thursday through Sunday at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Henrik Stenson is the event's defending champion after firing a 22-under par 258, last August. He claimed his sixth career PGA Tour win by finishing one shot ahead of Ollie Schniederjans (21-under par 259) and three shots clear of Webb Simpson (18-under par 262).
The Golf Channel will provide coverage of Thursday and Friday's first and second rounds at the Wyndham Championship, while weekend coverage will be provided by CBS Sports.
Shortly after graduation in May, DeMorat became Liberty's first-ever qualifier for the U.S. Open. The Flames former standout golfer finished the four-day event, annually known as the toughest test of golf in the world, carding a 17-over par 297 (72-72-80-73), finishing tied for 56th place on the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course (par 70, 7,440 yards), June 14-17.
DeMorat finished off his senior year, posting a 72.00 season stroke average, while recording four top-10 finishes and a team best three top-five finishes. The senior finished his Liberty career with a 72.28 stroke average, the second-best mark in program history.
The native of Merritt Island, Fla., played 17 of his 39 rounds at par or better during the season (43.6 percent). He posted under-par tournament totals five times, including a 7-under par 209 for a runner-up finish at the Big South Men's Golf Championship and a 4-under par 209 for a 17th-place showing at the NCAA Raleigh Regional.
DeMorat earned All-Big South first-team honors as a senior and was named to the Big South All-Championship team following his runner-up finish. Additionally, he was recently named to the PING All-Region team.
