As Liberty women's soccer prepares for its first ever season in the ASUN Conference, the Lady Flames have been picked to finish third as the conference released its preseason poll.
Picked to finish first in the conference is the reigning ASUN regular season and tournament champion FGCU who are looking to make their fifth straight NCAA College Cup and claim their ninth straight regular-season title. Lipscomb, who was picked second in the preseason poll, was the only other team to receive a first-place vote.
The Lady Flames will be entering a new territory, joining the ASUN and have only played two current ASUN schools. The first ASUN school Liberty faced was Stetson back in 2001 and in the past two seasons Liberty has faced FGCU at home and on the road.
The defending Big South regular-season champs will be tested early in the ASUN conference schedule playing four of its first five conference games away from Osborne Stadium. In the Lady Flames' four road contests, three of those games are against three of the top four teams from the 2017 ASUN standings including a visit to FGCU. The Lady Flames will also travel to Lipscomb, who earned a share of the ASUN regular-season title last year with FGCU, and fourth-place Kennesaw State in Liberty's first ASUN matchup. Liberty's first home conference matchup will be on Sept. 23 against NJIT.
