Liberty freshman Noel Palmer closed out the Lady Flames' stay at the 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships with an impressive fourth-place finish in the women's 5K, Saturday evening at Indiana's Hayes Track.
Palmer, the 2018 Big South indoor and outdoor women's 5K runner-up, worked her way up through the 12-member field throughout the race. In the end, her 17:01.69 clocking was good for fourth place.
Up front, Iowa State's Cailie Logue (16:15.47) and Boise State's Emily Venters (16:19.22) prevailed in a three-way battle with Iowa State's Amanda Vestri (16:19.83), claiming Team USA's two spots in next month's IAAF U20 World Championships in Finland.
Competing in her second event in as many days in Bloomington, freshman Chelsea Igberaese took 12th place in Saturday afternoon's women's hammer competition. After fouling her first two throws, the Georgia native reached 154-10 in round three.
UCLA's Alyssa Wilson (217-7) and North Carolina's Jillian Shippee (210-6) earned the event's two tickets to the IAAF U20 World Championships.
Up Next The USATF (Des Moines, Iowa) and Jamaica (Kingston, Jamaica) Outdoor Championships are both slated for June 21-24.
Sophomore All-Americans Markus Ballengee (USA decathlon) and Jovaine Atkinson (Jamaica men's 110 hurdles) are both expected to compete, with several teammates possibly joining them as well.
