Nov. 17, 2007, will long be remembered as one of the greatest days in the annals of the Liberty University Athletics Department.

After a season of offensive fireworks never before seen in the history of the football program, it was the Flames' defensive unit that stepped up to seal Liberty's first-ever Big South title with a 31-0 win over Gardner-Webb.

The conference title was one of three the Athletics Department would claim on the weekend. The football program was joined by both the volleyball and men's soccer squads as Big South champions, as they also captured league titles.

The unprecedented weekend was culminated on Monday when Liberty's Josh McDougal, a 12-time All-American, captured the only missing gem in his storybook collegiate career, when he outlegged Oregon's Galen Rupp to claim the NCAA Cross Country National Championship in Terre Haute, Ind.

These three programs and a standout student-athlete helped complete the dream of Liberty University founder Dr. Jerry Falwell, who wanted each Liberty student to be a champion for Christ.

Kent Hicks (#26) records one of his team-leading seven tackles on the afternoon.

Liberty's defense upended the Bulldogs all afternoon, resulting in Gardner-Webb finishing the game with an opponent season-low 187 total offensive yards.

Quarterback Brock Smith (#13) peers over offensive lineman Bryan Mosier (#56), as he completed nine-straight attempts en route to his fourth-consecutive 200-yard passing game.

Zach Terrell recorded a three-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter, giving the junior his 16th-straight game with a rushing touchdown and Liberty's final points of the afternoon.

Steven Ackley (#45) and Nick Hursky (#53) converge on another Gardner-Webb player to help keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

Wynton Jackson (#1) returns to the Flames' line-up for his final game in a Liberty uniform.

Stevie Ray Lloyd (#11) recorded his first career interception and Liberty's Big South-leading 18th of the year late in the third quarter, to halt another Gardner-Webb drive.
