Before the Flames started their fifth and final week of spring football practice, Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the team's workouts.
Gill started the media session by providing football's end of spring practice awards. These awards are traditionally handed out during the Flames annual spring football game, but as a reminder, the game was cancelled this year due to the Williams Stadium expansion project.
Liberty's Most Improved Players of the spring were: Offense – Frank Boyd (R-Fr., RB); Defense – Mitchell Hurtado (Sr., DL) and Special Teams – Remington Green (So., LB). During an awards ceremony held last weekend, it was also announced graduated punter Trey Turner was named this year's Luke 2:52 Award winners (Whole Person Development).
Gill also recapped the Flames final full scrimmage of spring workouts, plus fielded questions from the media about some of the position battles that took place during spring workouts.
The Flames will wrap up their spring practice session with practices No. 14 and 15 on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. All of Liberty's spring practice workouts are closed to the general public and media.
During its five-week spring practice workouts, LibertyFlames.com continued to provide insight from the Flames' players and coaches as the team prepares for its first season of FBS competition.
