Embry Emerges

Starting at catcher for the first time in his collegiate career, the Louisville, Ky. native, who only had 28 at bats in 2017, belted the first home run of his career in his first at bat of the year, last Friday. His two-run home run in the first inning staked the Flames to a 2-0 lead en route to a 5-4 victory on opening day.

Embry has collected back-to-back three hit games entering Friday's contest with Binghamton. The catcher had the first three-hit contest of his career in Sunday's 4-2 win over VCU in the second game of a doubleheader.  On Tuesday, he went 3-for-3 in Liberty's 4-1 victory over James Madison.

Walk This Way
After Liberty finished its year second in the nation in  bases on balls in 2017 and leading the Big South with 341, the Flames picked up where they left off,  last weekend. Liberty walked 29 times during its three-game series with VCU. The Flames walked 12 times each in both games of their doubleheader on Sunday.

1B Dylan Allen lead the way, walking eight times. After recieving three "free passes" in game one, Allen set a Liberty program single-game record with five bases on balls duuring the night cap.
Liberty averaged 6.2 walks per game in 2017. The Flames' patience at the plate paid off, as Liberty led the Big South with a .390 on base percentage during the regular season and ranked 30th nationally at the end of the season.
Leading the way was outfielder D.J. Artis. Despite missing three games, Artis led the nation with 62 walks. For the second straight year, the outfielder led the conference with a .559 on base percentage. The outfielder finished second nationally in the category.
