Liberty redshirt sophomore forward Scottie James has been named the Big South Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
The big man averaged 24.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in Liberty's two wins over Winthrop and Longwood. The native of Tarpon Springs, Fla., was lethal from all ends of the floor shooting 62.1 percent from the floor, 40 percent from three-point range and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line. James is the first player from Liberty to earn player of the week honors this season and the first since Theo Johnson did on March 1, 2015.
In back-to-back games, James posted a career-high nine field goal makes starting with 21 points in a win at home against Winthrop. A threat inside the paint, James was also effective on the defensive end recording a career-high three blocks against the Eagles.
After tying his career-high with 21 points against Winthrop, James would explode on the road at Longwood, setting a new career-best with 28 points, shooting 9-14 from the field. James would post a double-double against the Lancers with 11 rebounds and shooting 9-10 from the free-throw line.
James now has seven double-doubles this season, which is the most by a Liberty player in their sophomore season. James also ranks 60th in the nation, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.
James and the Flames will return to action this week starting with Charleston Southern on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Buc Dome.
