One week into spring softball practice, LFSN reporter Nick Pierce caught up with sophomore infielder Amber Bishop.
Bishop had a dominant freshman campaign in 2017, setting nine program freshman records and two overall single-season program records. She led the Big South in hits, runs score, RBI and total bases, on the way to earning Big South Freshman of the Year and VaSID State Rookie of the Year honors.
An NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team selection, she was one of 25 finalists for NFCA National Freshman of the Year. She also played a major role in Liberty's first postseason championship, being named to the NISC All-Tournament Team. Bishop was additionally honored on the Big South All-Tournament Team, Big South All-Conference First Team and Big South All-Freshman Team.
She helped the Lady Flames post a program-record 46 wins, one of 22 program records tied or broken by the 2017 Lady Flames. Liberty went 16-5 in Big South play, earning the Big South regular-season title.
