Liberty senior Prudence Rooker was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week after a standout performance at Saturday's home tri-meet.
Rooker receives her second career CCSA Swimmer of the Week honor, as she was named Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 4, 2014. Teammate Amy Schools has twice been named CCSA Diver of the Week, Oct. 10 and Dec. 5. Rooker's award is the 23rd weekly CCSA honor for the Liberty swimming & diving team in program history, including six Diver of the Week mentions and 17 Swimmer of the Week awards.
Hailing from Forest Grove, Ore., Rooker played a key role in Liberty's 160-140 win over Marshall on Saturday. She won the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, both in season-best time, while also swimming on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. She pulled off two close wins, beginning with the 100 breaststroke, where she edged Marshall's Catherine Bendziewicz, 1:04.45 to 1:04.51. Rooker later out-touched Bendziewicz in the 200 breaststroke, 2:20.37 to 2:20.64. Her 2:20.37 is the fastest 200 breaststroke by a Liberty swimmer this season.
Liberty (8-2, 5-0 CCSA) next heads to Huntington, W.Va., to take on Marshall this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
