First Pitch Dinner Announced For Feb. 2

First Pitch Dinner Tickets

The Liberty Athletics Department, the Flames Club and the Liberty Flames baseball program have announced the opportunity for Liberty alumni and fans to kick off the upcoming 2018 season with a memorable evening at the program's inaugural First Pitch Dinner. The banquet is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Montview Ballroom.

"We are really looking forward to our inaugural First Pitch Dinner. I cannot think of a better way to kick off the season," stated Liberty Head Coach Scott Jackson. "This is a fun way for our fans and former players to join us in getting to know our current team as we start our 2018 season. Our fans and alumni are extremely important to our program and we hope many of them will join our program on Feb. 2 and continue to make plans to join us every year for Liberty Baseball's First Pitch Dinner."

Tickets for the banquet are $35.00 and $15.00 for those 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased online here or by calling the ticket office at 434-582-SEAT.

Former Flames infielder Tony Beasley, currently the third base coach for the Texas Rangers, will be the evening's feature. After two seasons at Liberty (1988-89), Beasley was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles during the 1989 MLB Draft.

Beasley has spent the past 17 years as a member of several major league coaching staffs as an assistant coach at the major league level or a manager at the minor league level. A majority of his coaching career was spent in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, where he was the third base coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2008-10 and a minor league manager or instructor for over 10 seasons. He also has been a coach with the Lynchburg Hillcats (1998 and 2000), has been the third base coach for the Washington Nationals (2006) and managed at various levels of the Washington organization (2010-13).

Currently, Beasley is the third base coach for the Texas Rangers. In early 2016, he was diagnosed with cancer, forcing him to miss the beginning of the MLB season. In Dec. of 2016, Beasley was declared cancer-free.

The First Pitch Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a meet and greet with Beasley and other special Liberty baseball guests. A silent auction and meet and greet session with the 2018 Liberty Flames will also begin at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner program to follow at 7 p.m.

The Flames will open their 2018 season on Feb. 16 against the VCU Rams at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
