As the calendar winds down to the final days of 2017, the Liberty Flames Sports Network is looking back at the moments that made this athletics year special for Flames Nation.
Liberty Athletics Top Moments of 2017 continues today by looking at Moment No. 2, baseball's win at No. 3 North Carolina on April 18, 2017, at Boshamer Stadium.
Trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and two out, Liberty third baseman Trey McDyre lined a double off the top of the left-center field wall, clearing the bases and giving the Flames a 4-2 advantage. Left fielder Jake Barbee followed with a triple to center field for a 5-2 lead.
The Tar Heels are the highest ranked team Liberty has defeated in program history. Before the win on April 18, the highest ranked team the Flames had beaten on the diamond was No. 5 South Carolina, 3-2, on Feb. 17, 2013.
The 2017 calendar year was another banner year in Liberty Athletics. Liberty won its 13th Big South Sasser Cup title and swept the Big South Sasser Cup, Men's All-Sport and Women's All-Sport trophy awards for the fourth time in athletics department history.
LibertyFlames.com thanks Flames Nation for its support of Liberty Athletics in 2017 and we look forward to another exciting year in 2018.
