The Liberty Flames men's soccer team has moved up one spot to No. 9 this week in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Atlantic Region poll. Reaching as high as No. 5 in the poll this season, the Flames have appeared in the poll every week this season, the first time in program history.

"I'm very proud of our guys and applaud their willingness to consistently perform at a high level on a daily basis," stated Liberty Head Coach Jeff Alder. "We have six players who are out for the season, and the team has never allowed those setbacks to affect our ability to pursue our goals."

The Flames, 10-4-2 overall, finished the Big South Conference regular season in second place with a 5-1 mark in conference play. Liberty will face No. 7 seed UNC Asheville in the opening round of the 2007 Big South Championship, Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C. Boston College moves back atop the poll this week after its victory over last week's No. 1 team Virginia Tech.

Liberty completed its regular season this past Tuesday with a 4-1 win over Big South foe VMI at Liberty Soccer Field. Senior Adrian Bumbut (F, Zalau, Romania) opened the Liberty scoring with his conference-leading 12th goal in his last home game in a Flames' uniform. Midfielder Daniel McGarry (Jr. Phildelphia, Pa.) added his first marker of the season, along with second-half goals by Juan Guzman (So., MF, Charlotte, N.C.) and senior forward Justin Willoughby (Greenville, N.C.) in the victory.

Defensively, the Flames continue to lead the Big South with eight shutouts. Liberty currently is among the nation's elite in shutout percentage, ranking No. 16 in the country with a 0.5 percentage. The Flames have also yielded just 1.12 goals per contest, so far this season.
