As the calendar winds down to the final days of 2017, the Liberty Flames Sports Network is looking back at the moments that made this athletics year special for Flames Nation.
Liberty Athletics Top Moments of 2017 continues today by looking at Moment No. 9, Azaria Kirwa earning All-America honors with a 25th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 18, 2017.
Kirwa clocked a time of 29:46.46 to become the fourth NCAA Division I All-American in Liberty men's cross country history, joining the company of Sam Chelanga, Evans Kigen and Josh McDougal in that exclusive club. Kirwa's All-America honor was the Flames' first at this meet since Chelanga won the national title and Kigen placed 31st in 2010.
The 2017 calendar year was another banner year in Liberty Athletics. Liberty won its 13th Big South Sasser Cup title and swept the Big South Sasser Cup, Men's All-Sport and Women's All-Sport trophy awards for the fourth time in athletics department history.
LibertyFlames.com thanks Flames Nation for its support of Liberty Athletics in 2017 and we look forward to another exciting year in 2018.
