For the second time this season, Liberty point guard Ashtyn Baker has been named Big South Freshman of the Week.
Baker, who was previously honored on Nov. 13, played a key role in the Lady Flames' 2-0 week. She averaged 9.5 ppg, 2.5 spg and shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the field while contributing to Liberty's stifling defensive efforts against Limestone and Valparaiso.
The Nesbit, Miss., native scored eight points and came up with a pair of steals in just 18 minutes during Tuesday's 68-38 home-opening victory over Limestone.
On Saturday, the Lady Flames trailed Valparaiso 35-34 midway through the third quarter. Baker then contributed five of her career-high 11 points to Liberty's game-changing 22-1 run. She also came up with two of her three steals after halftime, as the Lady Flames limited the Crusaders to 13 second-half points in a 61-40 triumph.
Liberty (3-4) will travel to James Madison (2-5) on Wednesday for a renewal of their Commonwealth rivalry. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the JMU Convocation Center.
