12 Players Earn All-Big South Football Honors

A dozen Liberty players picked up their final Big South honors of the season on Tuesday, when they were named to the 2017 Big South All-Conference Football Team.

Liberty placed two players on the All-Big South first-team listing and 10 players on the All-Big South second-team squad.

Big South champion Kennesaw State led all league members with 17 all-conference selections. Liberty and Monmouth tied for second with 12 all-conference honorees. Charleston Southern had 10 sections, followed by four for Presbyterian and two for Gardner-Webb.

After winning the program's first-ever Big South title, Kennesaw State picked up most of the league's larger year-end honors. Redshirt junior quarterback Chandler Burks was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Owls' Brian Bohannon, who led Kennesaw State to a title after starting the program three seasons ago, was named the Big South Coach of the Year. Owls' placekicker Justin Thompson was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.

Kennesaw State linebacker Bryson Armstrong and Monmouth running back Pete Guerrierio shared Big South Freshman of the Year honors. Monmouth defensive back Mike Basile and Charleston Southern defensive lineman Anthony Ellis tied in the final voting for the Big South Defensive Player of the Year award.

Liberty's two All-Big South first-team selections included: Antonio Gandy-Golden (WR, So.) and Hunter Winstead (LS, Gr.).

The Flames 10 All-Big South second-team honorees include: Stephen Calvert (QB, So.), Carrington Mosley (RB, R-Sr.), B.J. Farrow (WR, R-Jr.), Dontae Duff (OL, R-So.), Juwan Wells (DL, Jr.), Solomon McGinty (LB, Gr.), Jeremy Peters (DB, Jr.), Alex Probert (K, So.), Trey Turner (P, Gr.) and Frankie Hickson (KR, R-So.).

Punter Trey Turner finished his career as Liberty's all-time leader in punting average (40.7 yards per punt) and became Liberty's first four-time all-conference selection since linebacker Nick Sigmon (2011-14).

Carrington Mosley (RB, 5-11, 235, R-Sr., Brookneal, Va.)
Big South Preseason All-Conference … started 10 of 11 games … tied for second in the Big South in rushing touchdowns (9) … second in the conference in rushing attempts (185) … recorded five of his six career 100-yard games in 2017 … rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns against Gardner-Webb … finished with 149 yards and a touchdown to help the Flames to a win over Presbyterian.

B.J. Farrow (WR, 6-2, 190, R-Jr., Lynchburg, Va)
Started 10 games … tied for the team and Big South lead in touchdown receptions (10) … would be tied for No. 13 in the country in touchdown receptions if Liberty's players were eligible to be ranked in the national statistics … leads the team and ranks third in the Big South in yards per reception (17.8) … had a pair of 100-yard games in 2017, including a three-reception, 126-yard, one touchdown game at Monmouth.

Two-Time All-Big South selection (2016 and 2017 – second team) … Big South Preseason All-Conference … started all 11 games at right guard, giving him 22 career starts in two seasons (five at left guard, four at center, 13 at right guard) … 2016 HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-America team … 2016 VaSID all-state second team … helped protect quarterback Stephen Calvert, allowing the sophomore to set a school record in passing yards (3,363), completions (257) and touchdowns (29) … graded out at 93 percent in 2017, finishing the year with 79 knockdowns and one sack allowed.

Solomon McGinty (LB, 6-2, 220, Sr., Navasota, Texas)
Two-year starter … moved to weak-side linebacker in 2017 after playing the SPUR position in 2016 … team captain … one of three active players on Liberty's roster with 100-plus tackles, recording 103 stops during his two seasons with the Flames … tied for second on Liberty's roster with two interceptions in 2017 … recorded seven tackles at Monmouth, along with his second interception of the season.

Jeremy Peters (DB, 5-10, 190, Jr., Green Cove Springs, Fla.)
Started all 11 games at boundary cornerback … team captain … tied for fourth in the Big South in interceptions (3) … one of five players in Big South play to return an interception for a touchdown in 2017 … returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown to seal Liberty's road win at Gardner-Webb … ranks second on Liberty's roster in total tackles by a defensive back (36).

Alex Probert (K, 5-9, 170, So., Andover, Md.)

Two-time Big South all-conference selection (2016 and 2017 – second team/ kickoff return specialist) … Big South Preseason All-Conference … ranks second in the Big South in kickoff return average (21.4 yards per return) and total kickoff returns (27) … ranks fifth in the conference in all-purpose yards (106.6 yards per game) … also ranks second on Liberty's roster in rushing yards (375), rushing attempts (100) and rushing touchdowns (2).
