Brittany Weiss swam on Liberty's two top relays on Friday at Rutgers.
The Liberty swimming & diving team is currently in sixth place following day one of the Frank Elm Invite, Friday at the RU Aquatics Center.
Liberty scored 208 points as a team during Friday's evening finals session. Navy leads after one day with 497 points, followed by Rutgers in second at 394 and Northeastern third with 389. Columbia is close behind in fourth at 381. James Madison round out the top five with 255 points.
This weekend's meet helps give the athletes a preview of a championship format, similar to that used at end-of-season conference meets.
The Lady Flames got off to a great start, placing third in the 200 free relay in season-best 1:33.26. The quartet of Rachel Hoeve, Colleen Donlin, Brittany Weiss and Hannah Baker combined for the third-place effort.
Liberty placed four swimmers in finals for the 50 free. Baker took 11th place overall with a 23.84 in the B Final, while Weiss claimed 13th in 23.88 and Hoeve swam 23.95 at night for 14th place. Hoeve's 23.61 in the morning was Liberty's top qualifying time. Donlin clocked 23.87 in the C Final, good for 19th place. Danielle Boothe (t-43rd, 24.41), Ricki Lee Hodges (46th – 24.47), Ashley Mauzy (t-51st, 24.75), Chelsea Pond (54th – 24.93), Siani Null (t-66th – 25.61) and Corrilynn Lynch (72nd – 25.96) all competed in prelims. All told, eight Lady Flames took home season-best times in the 50 free today.
In the 200 IM, Lindsey Cohee swam 2:07.59 in the morning before placing 16th overall with a 2:09.31 in the B Final. Kiah Francis swam 2:07.54 in the C Final, giving her 21st place overall. Francis' 2:07.54 is good for 10th place on the program's all-time top 10 performers list.
Emily Manly claimed 21st place overall in the 500 free, swimming 5:03.60 in the C Final. Payton Keiner took 29th with her 5:04.38 D Final swim. Ashlee Sall (t-46th – 5:08.59), Alicia Finnigan (51st – 5:10.71), Pond (56th – 5:14.91), Morgan Noonan (58th – 5:15.29), Shelby Black (65th – 5:20.16) and Elizabeth Magnusson (66th – 5:20.74).
Jenna Joyal led Liberty's divers in the one-meter springboard event, scoring 184.40 for 34th place. Amy School finished 39th with 169.50, while Christine Young (118.40) and Ellen Tart (113.95) placed 44th and 45th, respectively.
Liberty finished up the evening session by placing 10th in the 400 medley relay. Weiss, Hodges, Cohee and Hoeve combined for a 3:50.96.
The Lady Flames return to the RU Aquatics Center tomorrow, for day two of the Frank Elm Invite. Tomorrow's program opens at 9:30 a.m., with prelims of the 400 individual medley. Evening finals will begin at 5 p.m., and day two concludes with the 800 free relay finals.
