Liberty men's tennis has announced the addition of Josh Wilson and Ian Sturgill for the 2018-19 season.
"We are honored to have Josh and Ian on board, and we are believing great things are ahead for them on and off the court," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt. "Josh and Ian will take full advantage of all that Liberty has to offer, academically, athletically, spiritually and socially. They are both excellent athletes with a strong work ethic and love for the game. Our staff can't wait to start working with them."
Josh Wilson (Reigate, United Kingdom/Wolsey Hall Distance Learning) Wilson comes to Liberty from Reigate, United Kingdom. He reached the finals of singles and doubles in the 2017 British Nationals.
Wilson captured the doubles title and finished runner-up in singles at the 2017 ITF Nottingham event. He also claimed second place in singles at the 2017 ITA Estonian Junior Open.
Wilson reached as high as No. 35 in the Men's Open rankings (Canada) at age 16.
Ian Sturgill (Madison Heights, Va./Central Virginia CC) Ian Sturgill, a Madison Heights, Va., native, joins the Flames from Central Virginia Community College. Sturgill reached a high of No. 38 in the U.S. senior class and is currently the No. 2 player in the Virginia senior class.
This past summer, Sturgill won four rounds at Clay Court nationals and two rounds at the Kalamazoo Hard Court nationals. In January, Sturgill won a Mid Atlantic Sectional Championship Level 3 event.
