Just two games into her collegiate career, Liberty point guard Ashtyn Baker has been named Big South Freshman of the Week.
A native of Nesbit, Miss., Baker averaged 7.0 ppg, a team-high 3.0 apg and 2.0 rpg while shooting 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from the field and 100 percent (4-of-4) from the foul line during Preseason WNIT matchups with Old Dominion and No. 24/23 Michigan.
Baker made a successful collegiate debut at Old Dominion on Friday, contributing eight points and a team-high three assists to the Lady Flames' 63-55 victory. Baker contributed four points and two assists during the fourth quarter, helping Liberty close out its first-ever win over the Monarchs.
Two days later, Baker posted six points and a team-leading three assists in Liberty's 74-50 loss at No. 24/23 Michigan.
Liberty players have now captured six straight Big South Freshman of the Week honors, dating back to last season. Keyen Green and Ola Makurat combined to win the last five awards of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Lady Flames (1-1) will close out their stay in the 2017 Preseason WNIT with a consolation game against either Drake, Louisiana or the loser of Tuesday's game between No. 9/10 Louisville and Toledo. The matchup details will be announced late Tuesday night.
