Game Day Central: Presbyterian
The Flames will honor their 10-member senior class on Saturday when they host Presbyterian in a Big South battle on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day.
"4 Downs" with the Blue Hose
1. Tommy Spangler is in the first season of his second term as Presbyterian's head coach. He previously guided the Blue Hose from 2001-06 but did not face Liberty during that time. PC is seeking its first Big South win of 2017, its first-ever Big South victory over Liberty and its first triumph at Williams Stadium. The Flames are 8-0 in Big South matchups with PC and 5-0 at Williams Stadium.
2. Presbyterian, which enters Saturday's game with a 3-6 record, has posted two winning seasons at the FCS level. The Blue Hose finished 6-5 in 2007 and 2014. PC running back Torrance Marable is on the watch list for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the nation's top FCS freshman. Marable is a two-time Big South Freshman of the Week and ranks No. 5 in the conference with 726 rushing yards, just two yards behind Liberty's Carrington Mosley.
3. Saturday will mark Presbyterian's third road game of the season, as the Blue Hose played seven consecutive home contests between Sept. 9 - Oct. 28. PC is 0-2 away from Clinton this year and has lost six straight road games dating back to 2016. Redshirt senior Will Brock made his third career start at QB last week at Monmouth.
4. The most recent among Presbyterian's four all-time victories over Liberty was a 31-28 upset win on Nov. 1, 2008 in Clinton, S.C. That Flames team finished 10-2. Prior to that, PC's victories over the Flames came in 1983, 1984 and 1985. The Blue Hose owned fourth quarter leads in two of their last three visits to Lynchburg (2011 & 2015), before Liberty rallied to win both games.
