The Flames will compete at the Wake Forest Invitational, this weekend.
The Liberty Flames men's tennis team will finish up its fall slate at the three-day Wake Forest Invitational over the weekend.
The three-day tournament will be held at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C. and begins with doubles play on Friday at 9 a.m. Liberty has competed at the Wake Forest Invite in every fall season since 2012.
"We are so excited about competing against the best at Wake Forest this weekend," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt. "We learned in Bob Beaudine's session that champions love well. Our goal is to love each other well through our actions, attitudes and words and fight our hardest for each other."
The Wake Forest Invite features 18 teams: Liberty, Wake Forest, Indiana, Duke, North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina, Mercer, Tennessee Tech, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, Charlotte, Davidson, UNCG, Radford, Campbell, James Madison and Wofford.
The Flames will have six players competing at the three day-event: Max Borcuti, Chase Burton, Diego Castano, Eddie Gutierrez, Alex Poynter and Vince Salas.
Liberty last competed at the ITA Atlantic Regional (Oct. 19-24), which the Flames hosted for the first time in program history. In total, Liberty collected 16 singles and two doubles wins at the regional, led by Burton's run to the quarterfinals in the singles main draw. Burton posted four singles wins at the tournament.
Gutierrez won three singles matches to reach the round of 16 in the singles main draw. The Mexico City, Mexico, native and Burton share the team lead with eight singles triumphs, this fall.
The doubles pairings of Burton and Sebastian Mermersky, along with Castano and Poynter, both have five victories to their credit.
