Saturday's Top Storylines 1. Liberty (4-4, 1-2 Big South) will host NEC-leading Duquesne (7-1, 4-0 NEC) on Saturday for both teams' final non-conference game of the 2017 regular season. 2. The Flames are looking to build upon last weekend's 33-17 win at Gardner-Webb and halt a two-game home losing streak. Meanwhile, Duquesne has won seven games in a row, marking the Dukes' longest winning streak since 2002. 3. Liberty is 5-2 all-time against NEC opponents, including 5-1 in Lynchburg. The one home loss came at the hands of Saint Francis (Pa.), 13-7, on Sept. 30. The Flames are hosting an NEC foe for the third time in their last nine home games. 4. Liberty QB Stephen Calvert has thrown for 23 TDs this season, leaving him two shy of setting a Flames single-season record. He will be opposed by Duquesne QB Tommy Stuart, a transfer from Boise State with 22 passing TDs in 2017. 5. Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden needs 112 receiving yards to become the 7th Flame ever with 1,000 in a season. His Duquesne counterpart, Nehari Crawford, is tied for the national lead with 11 receiving TDs. 6. Liberty's defense, which has yielded 1,139 rushing yards during the last three games, will be challenged again on Saturday. Duquesne RB A.J. Hines is the reigning Jerry Rice Award winner, given to the nation's top freshman in FCS football.
A Liberty Win Would ... • Snap the Flames' two-game home losing streak, enabling Liberty to avoid suffering three straight setbacks at Williams Stadium for the first time since a five-game home losing skid spanning Sept. 17-Oct. 22, 2005. • Improve the Flames' November record under Turner Gill to 15-4, including 9-2 at Williams Stadium. • Give the Flames their second victory over a first-time opponent in 2017 (also Baylor). • Make the Flames 6-2 all-time against NEC opponents, including 6-1 at home and 5-1 at Williams Stadium. • Boost the Flames' all-time record against Pennsylvania opponents to 15-12, including 13-7 at home and 8-6 at Williams Stadium. • Halt Duquesne's seven-game winning streak, handing the Dukes their first loss since Aug. 31.
