With a berth in the Big South Championship final on the line, Liberty women's soccer will face Longwood at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. in a semifinal matchup. As the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Liberty will look to avenge a loss to the Lancers back on Oct. 18 where Longwood was victorious, 3-0, at home.
Longwood's win over the Lady Flames earlier this season, was the Lancers' first win over Liberty since Oct. 27, 2012 when they defeated Liberty in the Big South Championship quarterfinals.
The Lady Flames found themselves in a battle in Friday's quarterfinal matchup against Gardner-Webb, going into double overtime before prevailing, 2-1. It was Liberty's first overtime game in the Big South quarterfinals since 2012 (loss to Longwood) and its third overtime match in the last four years of the Big South Championship.
Liberty looks to continue its success in the Big South Championship, as the Lady Flames have won the title every year they have entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed (2000, 2013 and 2016). This game features 19 all-conference selections, including the Big South Coach of the Year, Todd Dyer.
Liberty is 10-5-3 all-time against Longwood. The Lady Flames suffered a 3-0 loss this season at Longwood.
