The Big South runner-up Liberty men's cross country team is ranked No. 9 in the Southeast Region this week, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Southern Conference champion Furman maintained its hold on the No. 1 spot in the Southeast Region, followed by ACC runner-up Virginia Tech (No. 2), ACC third-place finisher NC State (No. 3), ACC fourth-place finisher Virginia (No. 4) and Big South champion Campbell (No. 5).

Hosting the Big South Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2008 on Saturday, Liberty finished just four points (38-42) behind national No. 28 Campbell in the men's team standings. The Flames came in second for the fourth consecutive season and have now recorded 15 straight top-two placements at the Big South meet.

For the first time since 2005, five Liberty men's runners made the All-Big South team. The Flames' honorees included junior Azaria Kirwa (second place), redshirt sophomore James Zentmeyer (seventh place), redshirt senior Samuel Proctor (10th), freshman Augostine Lisoreng (11th) and senior Graham Hansel (12th).

A small group of Flames and Lady Flames will travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Friday for the Hokie Open. The men's 6K will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the women's 4K at 5:10.
