Liberty women's soccer has claimed a share of the Big South title and will now go into the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the 2017 Big South Championship. To kick off the tournament, the Lady Flames will host the No. 7 seed, Gardner-Webb on Friday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m.
The game will be streamed on the Big South Network, as the two schools will face off at Osborne Stadium for the second time this season. Liberty and the Runnin' Bulldogs faced off in the Big South opener this season in a tight battle where Liberty pulled out the 1-0 victory. Liberty's win over the Runnin' Bulldogs was one of five 1-0 victories for the Lady Flames in conference.
High Point and Liberty tied for the regular-season championship at 7-1-1 with 22 points, and the Panthers claim the No. 1 seed with the Lady Flames receiving the No. 2 seed. The teams tied 0-0 during their regular season meeting, and the next two tiebreaker procedures (point system and goals against) still did not yield an advantage. The tiebreaker process reached the fifth component -- goals for minus goals against. HPU posted a plus-7 goal differential in league games (11-4), compared to Liberty's total of plus-five (9-4).
