Liberty to Host Marshall for Final Non-Conference Match of Season, Tuesday

Winners of three straight matches, the Liberty Flames return home for its last non-conference match of the 2017 regular season, Tuesday. 
 
The Flames will host the Marshall Thundering Herd. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
 
Notables
• This past Friday, the Flames pushed their winning streak to three games with a 2-1 win at Presbyterian. Kevin Mendoza's seventh goal of the season during the 86th minute broke a 1-1 tie and gav e Liberty the victory.
 
• Liberty has outscored its opponents, 27-10. The Flames enter Tuesday's contest ninth nationally in  scoring offense with a 2.25 goals per game average. Liberty ranks 14th in total goals.
 
• Liberty leads the Big South with a 0.812 goals-against average. The Flames ranked 26th nationally in the category.
 
Tresor Mbuyu begins the week 11th nationally with  a 1.83 points per game average and 14th in the nation with nine goals. 
 
•Goalkeeper James Knoebel leads the Big South in goals-against average (0.85) and save percentage (.804).
 
Liberty Moves Winning Streak To 3
Midfielder Kevin Mendoza scored with less than five minutes remaining, lifting the Liberty Flames past the Presbyterian Blue Hose, 2-1, Friday night in a Big South match at Martin Stadium. With the victory, the Flames extended their winning streak to three.
 
With the score tied 1-1, Mendoza side-step a defender in the midfield, catching PC goalkeeper Connor Behrend out of position. The midfielder then scored his seventh goal of the season at 85:27 for what proved to be the final score of 2-1. Mendoza has scored a goal in each of Liberty's last three games.
 
Midfielder Alex Dominguez put Liberty on the board in the first half with the first goal of his career.
 
Offensive Numbers Standout
Entering the week, Liberty has outscored its opponents, 27-10. The Flames have recorded five shutouts to lead the Big South.
 
Currently, the Flames enter Tuesday's contest ninth nationally in  scoring offense with a 2.25 goals per game average. Liberty ranks 14th in total goals.

Mbuyu Among National Leaders
Tresor Mbuyu begins the week, 11th in the nation with  1.83 points per game average and 14th in the nation with nine goals. 

In addition, Mbuyu ranks 12th in the country with 22 total points.  He also is tied for fifth  in the Big South Conference with four assists.

The 2017 Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year has accumulated a point  in eight of Liberty's 12 games this season.

Defending Home Field
The Flames have posted a 5-1 record at Osborne Stadium, so far this season. Liberty has outscored its opponents, 16-3, at home. 

Scoring First
The Flames have scored first in nine of their 12 contests this season. Liberty holds a 7-1-1 record in those games. 

In addition, the Flames are 6-0 when leading at halftime and 2-1-1 when they are tied.

Dominguez Assists
Liberty senior Alex Dominguez enters Tuesday's contest among the Big South leaders in assists. The senior is tied for fifth with four helpers. 

On Friday, Dominguez scored the first goal of his career in Liberty's 2-1 win at Presbyterian. 

The senior entered the year with only one assist during his first three seasons at Liberty.
