After two wins and taking sole possession of first place in the Big South, Liberty women's soccer goalkeeper, Melody Jayroe, has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week. This is Jayroe's second freshman of the week honor in the last four weeks.
The native of Plano, Texas is now just one of two freshman to receive the honor twice, joining Radford's Lexi Dean. In 12 games played this season, Jayroe has been impressive posting a 0.64 goals against average, which ranks 38th in the country. Jayroe has proven to be one of the best freshman goalkeepers in the country, posting the eighth lowest goals against average among freshman throughout Division I. The freshman has not allowed a goal in the last 392 minutes and 56 seconds that Liberty has played.
In Liberty's two wins against Presbyterian and Charleston Southern this past week, Jayroe recorded two shutouts compiling 10 saves throughout 193 minutes of action. In 12 games, Jayroe has recorded seven shutouts with six during conference play. Jayroe leads the conference with a 0.13 goals against average during Big South contests.
Jayroe and the Lady Flames will conclude its regular season this week when they travel to face Longwood and UNC Asheville.
