The Lady Flames finished the ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech with nine total victories.
Day 3 Results
The Liberty Lady Flames' two doubles teams' runs at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships came to an end on Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
For the first time in program history, two Liberty doubles teams played in the quarterfinal round of the main draw doubles bracket. Both squads dropped tough decisions to strong foes.
Lady Flames juniors Rebekah Anderson and Ashley Bongart came up short against the second-seeded team of Ekaterina Tour and Eva Alexandrova of Maryland, 8-3, in the quarterfinal round.
"Although today didn't go as we wanted it to, we've learned a lot from this weekend," stated Anderson. "It's nice to see how our hard work is paying off."
In singles, Anderson was the only Lady Flame to record a win, defeating Maryland's Zoe Kulkarni, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
The other quarterfinal doubles match for Liberty pitted senior captain Evangeline Crist and Anna Dollar against Maryland's Arnelle Sullivan and Millie Stretton, the No. 11 seed. The Terrapins' pairing prevailed, 8-6, in the match. Crist and Dollar have now reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional in consecutive years.
Overall, Liberty women's tennis claimed nine total victories over the course of three days at Virginia Tech.
Liberty's Bongart and Crist both saw their runs in the main singles draws come to an end on Sunday with losses. Bongart fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) to No. 10 Caroline Daxhelet (Virginia Tech), while Crist lost to Virginia Tech's Natalie Novotna (6-2, 6-1), the No. 2 overall seed.
Day four of the ITA Atlantic Regional will feature semifinals of doubles, quarterfinals of singles and the doubles final. Tuesday, the final day of the regional, will include semifinals and finals of singles competition.
The Lady Flames will be back in action at the Virginia Tech Invite from Nov. 3-5. At the same time, Liberty women's tennis will also compete at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic in Sarasota, Fla.
