Game Day Central: Kennesaw State
Liberty will kick off its 16th and final season of Big South football when it hosts to Big South preseason co-favorite Kennesaw State in the Flames' annual Homecoming contest.
"4 Downs" with the Owls 1. Saturday's contest features Big South Conference title contenders, past and present. Liberty has captured eight Big South championships in the last 10 seasons but is not eligible for this year's crown due to the Flames' transition to FBS football. Meanwhile, Kennesaw State is the 2017 Big South co-preseason favorite, along with Charleston Southern. 2. If the first two Liberty-Kennesaw State matchups are any indication, Saturday's game could see plenty of offensive fireworks. The Flames have outscored the Owls over the past two seasons by an average score of 40.5-28.0. The two matchups have seen an average of 856 yards of offense. Liberty and KSU are opening Big South Conference play against each other for the second straight season. 3. Kennesaw State is playing just its third season of football, but the Owls have wasted no time in establishing a winning program. Kennesaw State is 18-9 in program history, including 4-1 to start the 2017 campaign. Liberty is looking to improve to 3-0 versus the Owls and become the first opposing team ever to defeat KSU three times. 4. Kennesaw State arrives at Williams Stadium having won four consecutive games since a season-opening loss at Samford on Aug. 31. The Owls have enjoyed a trio of four-game winning streaks in program history but have never won five in a row. Liberty halted KSU's four-game winning streak with a 36-21 victory in Kennesaw on Oct. 15, 2016.
