Liberty women's tennis junior Maria Medina earned a spot in Sunday's A2 singles final, while freshman Grace Hashiguchi won her match in three sets on day two of the Wake Forest Invitational, Saturday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
"I'm very proud of how the girls have played in singles, so far. Maria has beaten two quality opponents from Power 5 schools," said Liberty head coach Jeff Maren. "Grace pulled out a tight match against JMU, and Nasha nearly pulled off another great win today. All have shown great fight, a willingness to play offense and have supported each other throughout the tournament. They are definitely heading in the right direction."
Medina continued her impressive fall campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kansas State's Rosanna Maffei. he Venezuela native is now 5-0 in singles competition, this fall, and will meet Wake Forest's Chandler Carter in Sunday's final.
In the E1 singles bracket, Hashiguchi collected a come-from-behind win against James Madison's Abby Amos. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Hashiguchi rallied for a three-set triumph (5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) for the second singles victory of her freshman campaign.
UNC Asheville's Anastasia Horvat upended Liberty freshman Nasha Ghajar in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) in the semifinals of the H1 singles draw.
