Sophomore Agueda Moroni has been tabbed the Longstretch/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Offensive Player of the Week following a nine-point week, last week for the Lady Flames.
Moroni, who was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, collects the first national recognition of her career.
"We are incredibly proud of Agui's accomplishment. She undoubtedly deserves this and has established herself as one of the nation's top attackers this season with her ability to score goals in crucial moments of pivotal games," said Liberty Field Hockey Head Coach Nikki Parsley.
The sophomore midfielder tallied four goals, one assist and nine points, last weekend for the Liberty field hockey team. Moroni did all of the scoring for the Lady Flames in a 3-1 BIG EAST victory over Old Dominion, last Friday, notching her second career hat trick.
The Cordoba, Argentina, native scored in the eighth, 28th and 32nd minutes of the first half to establish a 3-0 lead for the Lady Flames over the Monarchs. Moroni's efforts helped Liberty improve to 2-1 in the BIG EAST.
Last Sunday, Moroni recorded a goal and notched an assist at No. 13 Wake Forest. Moroni's efforts allowed Liberty to race out to a 3-1 lead in the contest, before the Demon Deacons prevailed, 4-3.
The Argentina native is among the national leaders in goals per game (sixth, 1.10) and points per game (2.50) through 10 games of her sophomore campaign.
Moroni and the Lady Flames (4-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) will play a pair of road games, Friday and Sunday. Liberty will take on at BIG EAST foe Georgetown (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a Sunday contest at No. 17 b Maryland (6-5, 2-2 B1G), beginning at 1 p.m.
