One game into conference play and goalkeeper, Melody Jayroe, has earned her first conference honor. Jayroe has been named this week's Big South Freshman of the Week after the Liberty's win over Gardner-Webb.
In her first career start in the Big South, Jayroe was just one of three Big South goalkeepers to record a shutout in the opening weekend. The native of Plano, Texas was the only freshman to record a shutout in the Big South this past weekend recording five saves against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Jayroe helped Liberty secure its sixth straight regular season victory within the Big South, dating back to Oct. 12 of last season. Currently, the freshman ranks second in the Big South in goals against average (1.17) and is third in save percentage (.774). Six games into her freshman campaign, Jayroe has posted two shutouts.
Jayroe and the Lady Flames will continue Big South play on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at home against High Point.
