Castano and Poynter capped off a 3-0 weekend by winning the White doubles title, Sunday.

The Liberty doubles duo of Diego Castano and Alex Poynter emerged victorious in the championship match of the White doubles division, Sunday on day three of the Liberty University Invitational at the Cook Tennis Center.
"Beck, Egon and I were encouraged by how our team left everything on the court this weekend and competed well," said Liberty head coach Derek Schwandt. "Congrats to Alex and Diego on taking the doubles title!"
Castano, a native of Statesville, N.C., and Poynter, a native of Houston, Texas, concluded a 3-0 weekend with an impressive 6-2 win over Campbell's strong unit of Gerard Sola and Jonathan O'Neal.
In other doubles action, Chase Burton and Sebastian Mermersky earned their first victory as a team on Sunday. The pairing knocked off VCU's Ignacio Rivero Crespo, 6-1. Mermersky also won a three-set thriller against Campbell's Fernando Clemente, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.
The Flames picked up four singles victories in the final singles session, Sunday afternoon. Liberty finished the three-day invitational with 20 total victories.
Vince Salas, Max Borcuti and Castano each won their respective singles bouts on day three. Salas bested James Aronson from Richmond in straight sets (7-6 (4), 6-3) in the Red singles draw. Meanwhile, Borcuti won for the second time in as many days, toppling Longwood's Lachlan Manser, 6-2, 6-1.
Fresh off the doubles crown, Castano earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Jorge Godoy of Longwood.
The Flames will continue fall training until their next event, the Aztec Fall Invitational, hosted by San Diego State from Oct. 6-8.
