Flames Continue Fall Season at Shoal Creek Invitational

The Flames will play their second of five fall tournaments next week when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2017 Shoal Creek Invitational.

The 54-hole event will be contested at the Shoal Creek Country Club, a par-72, 7,264-yard course. The tournament gets underway with 36 holes of continuous play on Monday, while the final 18 holes of competition are slated for Tuesday.

Liberty will make its third appearance at the Shoal Creek Invitational, having participated in the event in 2013 and 2014.

The Flames finished in sixth place out of 12 teams in 2013, having carded a 2-over par 866 (284-284-298). Liberty was paced by Chase Marinell, a current member of the PGA's Mackenzie Tour, who finished tied for ninth place with a 2-under par 214 (71-67-76).

In 2014, Liberty finished in ninth place out of 12 teams with a 38-over par 902 (300-301-301). Mathieu Fenasse, who is currently playing on the European Challenge Tour, finished tied for fifth place with a 2-under par 214 (72-72-70).

The Flames opened their 2017-18 schedule with a seventh-place showing at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C., last Saturday and Sunday.

Liberty carded a 6-over par 870 (297-279-294) at the Duke University Golf Course and was paced by Mickey DeMorat's 8-under par 208 (76-64-68).

Liberty will face one familiar foe next week when it participates in the UAB hosted tournament. Wake Forest, who won last weekend's Rod Myers Invitational with a 29-under par 558 (282-276-277), will also be a part of next week's 11-team field.

The 2017 Shoal Creek Invitational field includes five teams who finished in the final top 50 Golfstat rankings of the 2016-17 season: Wake Forest (No. 11), Ole Miss (No. 27), North Florida (No. 38), Kennesaw State (No. 47) and Liberty (No. 49).

Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. (CST) on Monday with a shotgun start. Players will be sent off the tee at No. 1 and No. 10 for Tuesday's final round starting at 7:30 a.m. (CST).
