The Flames finished their spring opening season golf tournament by placing fifth out 12 teams at the CSU Spring Kick-Off Tournament, Tuesday, held at the par 71, 6579-yard Coosaw Creek Country Club. Jacksonville claimed the team tournament trophy as they finished the 54-hole event with a 19-over-par 871 (293-288-290), while Campbell followed eight strokes behind with a 27-over-par 879 (290-289-300). A pair of Big South competitors just edged out the Flames for third and fourth place in the two-day tournament as Radford finished third with a 28-over-par 880 (301-280-299), while host Charleston Southern placed fourth with a 37-over-par 889 (301-294-294). Liberty finished the event in fifth place as the Flames carded a 54-hole total 44-over-par 896 (299-295-301). Charleston Southern's Shawn Hall was the event's individual medalist as he carded the second-best round of the tournament, a four-under-par 67, on the final day to finish the tournament with a two-under-par 211 (71-73-67). Radford's Aaron Summers (71-70-71) and Campbell's Fredric Sundberg (69-72-71) finished one stroke behind with a one-under-par 212 to share second place. Liberty was paced by Parker McKoy as the sophomore carded a six-over-par 219 (73-70-76) to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. Also placing for the Flames were Peter Horstman, who finished in 10th place with a seven-over-par 220 (78-71-71), Albie Powers, who finished tied for 19th with a 13-over-par 226 (76-77-73), Jay Calvo, who finished tied for 39th with a 19-over-par 232 (72-77-83) and Andrew Turner, who finished tied for 61st with a 30-over-par 243 (80-81-82). Liberty also sent four players to compete as individuals with Peter Hong finishing tied for 43rd with a 20-over-par 233 (82-76-75), Sam Nelson finishing tied for 51st with a 24-over-par 237 (79-77-81), Josh Bain finishing tied for 51st with a 24-over-par 237 (77-79-81) and Michael Turner finishing 60th with a 28-over-par 241 (87-79-75) The Flames return to the links when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to participate in the Hargrove B. Davis Spring Classic, hosted by Campbell at the Keith Hills Country Club on March 6-7 for a 54-hole event.
