2017-18 Men's Tennis Schedule

The Liberty Flames men's tennis team has released its 2017-18 competition schedule, featuring dual matches against No. 1 Virginia, No. 31 Florida State, Auburn and Virginia Tech. The Flames will travel to play UNC Wilmington, UC Irvine and San Diego State as well.

"We are excited to challenge the nation's best teams this fall and spring. Our team has been training hard with a big vision in mind for Flames tennis. We are thankful for the opportunity to represent Liberty and train and compete like champions," stated Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt.

Liberty will open its fall slate with the Liberty University Invitational, held this Friday through Sunday at the Cook Tennis Center. The Flames will play in their second of four fall tournaments from Oct. 6-8 at San Diego State's Aztec Fall Invitational.

Later in October, the program will serve as the host site for the ITA Division I Men's Tennis Regional for the first time in program history, hosting the best players in the Mid-Atlantic. The five-day ITA Atlantic Regional will be held from Oct. 19-24 on Liberty's Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts at the Cook Tennis Center.

The Flames will conclude their fall schedule at No. 2 Wake Forest in their Invitational, Nov. 3-5.

Schwandt's squad will commence its spring 2018 match schedule on Jan. 19 at Virginia Tech.

Liberty's home opener will be held on Jan. 26 against Commonwealth opponent Richmond. The Flames hit the road for matches at Auburn (Feb. 2), Kennesaw State (Feb. 4) and UNC Wilmington (Feb. 9) and USC Upstate (Feb. 10).

Later in February, the Flames will travel to the state of Florida, where they will face off against New Orleans (Feb. 23), Florida A&M and Florida State (Feb. 24). Following their return to Virginia, Liberty will start 2018 Big South play at Longwood on Feb. 28.

To open the month of March, the Flames will play a pair of non-conference bouts. They will take on George Mason on March 2 at home, followed by a road contest at William & Mary on March 3.

Liberty will host three consecutive home matches, including Big South showdowns versus Gardner-Webb (March 9) and UNC Asheville (March 10). The home stint wraps up with a match against Navy on March 12.

Liberty will head to the state of California for its spring break trip. The Flames will take on UC Irvine (March 16) and then play at San Diego State (March 21).

After returning to Lynchburg, the team will close out regular-season play with four straight Big South Conference matches, starting with a home bout against Radford, March 24.

Liberty will take on defending Big South champion Presbyterian (April 6, away), Winthrop (April 8, home) and Campbell (April 12, away) to conclude Big South regular-season competition.

The 2017 Big South Men's Tennis Championship will be contested from April 19-21 at Winthrop. The winner of the tournament will earn the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships.
