Mickey's DeMorat fired an 8-under par 64 during the second round of the Rod Myers Invitational on Saturday.

A near-record second round by Mickey DeMorat helped the Flames rebound from a tough start to the 2017-18 season on Saturday, allowing Liberty to finish the first day at the Rod Myers Invitational in seventh place.

A second time around the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards) allowed the Flames to shave 18 strokes off their first round score. Following 36 holes of play, Liberty ended the day at an even par 576 (297-279).

DeMorat was the catalyst, carding an 8-under par 64 during the afternoon flight to tie the second-lowest, 18-hole total in program history. Following the best individual round of the second flight, the senior is tied for sixth place with a 4-under par 140 (76-64).

Wake Forest, Oregon and Vanderbilt each posted double-digit under par scores during the second round to distance themselves from the rest of the 12-team field.

The Demon Deacons hold the clubhouse lead with an 18-under par 558 (282-276). Wake Forest is six shots head of the Ducks at 12-under par 564 (286-278) and seven strokes clear of the Commodores at 11-under par 565 (291-274).

Oregon's Norman Xiong leads a group of 24 players who finished the day in red figures with an 11-under par 133 (68-65). Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris is in second place with an 8-under par 136 (69-67) followed by Duke's Chandler Eaton's 6-under par 138 (69-69).

The Flames' Ervin Chang tied his career low during the second round, carding a 3-under par 69 to help him stand in 16th place with an overall 2-under par 142 (73-69).

Alexandre Fuchs led the Flames during his first collegiate round, as the native of France carded a 1-under par 71. Following 36 holes of play, the freshman is tied for 31st with a 2-over par 146 (71-75).

Isaiah Logue also showed great improved during the afternoon round, as the senior was seven shots better the second time around the course. The lefty is tied for 50th place with an overall 5-over par 149 (78-71).

Chandler Hutson rounds out Liberty's starting five with the senior standing in 66th place with an 11-over par 155 (77-78).

The Flames will close out the first tournament of their season tomorrow with a final 18 holes of play on Duke's home golf course. The Flames will be sent off the No. 10 tee starting at 9:05 a.m. along with East Carolina and ETSU for the final round of the 2017 Rod Myers Invitational.
