The Liberty women's soccer team is in full swing of preseason training. The Lady Flames have been going through two-a-days and film sessions as all their work is gearing toward their season opener on Aug. 18 at Wagner College.

Ten days into preseason, LFSN reporter Alan York caught up with first-year head coach, Lang Wedemeyer and redshirt senior goalkeeper, Tori Collar.

After reporting to preseason on Aug. 1, the Lady Flames have been working on the pitch as they attempt to defend their Big South title for the third straight season. During the first week of preseason, the Lady Flames faced off in their annual Red vs. Blue intrasquad scrimmage.

Liberty has already played one preseason game, traveling to Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech. The Lady Flames held their own, forcing a 1-1 tie against the Hokies in the exhibition match. After allowing a goal in the 39th minute, Liberty did not yield another goal to Virginia Tech and Sarah Erickson was able to provide the equalizer with 12.4 seconds left in the match.

Liberty will close out its preseason with an exhibition match against George Mason on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. at Osborne Stadium. The Lady Flames have won the last two Big South Conference titles and have been crowned conference champions three out of the last four years. Liberty captured the program's sixth title in 2016, becoming the first team in league history with a half-dozen conference championships. Liberty was picked to finish first in the Big South Preseason Poll while senior forward Jennifer Knoebel was named the Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year.

After the Lady Flames' season opener against Wagner College, the team will return to Lynchburg for its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 20, against VCU at 6 p.m.
