The Lady Flames began their quest for a third straight Big South title on Wednesday when Liberty's women's soccer team opened up its preseason training camp.
The Lady Flames held their first practice of the fall under first-year head coach Lang Wedemeyer on Wednesday afternoon. Following the workout, LFSN reporter Nick Pierce was able to catch up with Wedemeyer, reigning Big South Freshman of the Year Gabrielle Farrell and seniors Isabella Habuda and Sami Santos.
The Lady Flames have won the last two Big South Conference titles and have been crowned conference champions three out of the last four years. Liberty's captured the program's sixth title in 2016, becoming the first team in league history with a half-dozen conference championships.
The Lady Flames will officially kick off their first season under Wedemeyer on Aug. 18 when they travel to Staten Island, N.Y., to face Wagner College. Liberty hosts VCU for its home opener on Aug. 20 and opens Big South play against Gardner-Webb at Osborne Stadium on Sept. 23.
