During this week's LFSN Game On "In Their Own Words" segment, Lady Flames Head Volleyball Coach Shane Pinder talks about the importance of having passion for what you love.
Pinder has led the Liberty volleyball program to reach new heights since taking the helm prior to the 2004 season. Pinder is the Lady Flames' all-time winningest coach, both overall and in conference games. In 13 years at the helm, he has posted a 238-176 record, including 135-53 in Big South play.
Entering the 2017 season, Pinder is 11 conference wins away from setting a new record for volleyball coaching victories in Big South play.
On Oct. 3, 2014 at Gardner-Webb, Pinder became Liberty's winningest volleyball coach. The following day at UNC Asheville, he became the fourth volleyball head coach in Big South history with 200 or more wins. He is currently ranked second in overall coaching victories by a Big South coach.
Under Pinder's leadership, the Lady Flames won six straight Big South regular-season titles from 2007-12, breaking the conference record for consecutive championships. Liberty appeared in the Big South final in each of those six seasons, claiming the championship in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012. Additionally, the team claimed 20 or more victories for six straight years, from 2007-12.
During that stretch, Liberty was the only NCAA Division I volleyball team to post six straight 20-win seasons, six conference regular-season titles in a row and six consecutive appearances in the conference final.
