Alan York of the Liberty Flames Sports Network recently caught up with Liberty Cross Country Head Coach Brant Tolsma to look ahead at the upcoming 2017 season.
Liberty is currently building a new cross country course which will start and finish adjacent to the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. It will play host to two meets in 2017, including the Liberty Big South Preview (Sept. 16) and the Big South Cross Country Championships (Oct. 28). These will mark the Flames' first home cross country meets since 2008.
All-Big South performers Anna Van Wyk, Kammi Kurtz and Torree Scull return for the Lady Flames, who will attempt to defend their conference title. Meanwhile, the 2016 Big South runner-up Flames will be anchored by returning all-conference runners Azaria Kirwa and Cameron Francis.
Liberty will open the 2017 cross country season on Sept. 1, competing in the UVA Duals in Earlysville, Va.
