Liberty's Jonathan Embry has been selected to start the 2017 Coastal Plain League (CPL) All-Star Game, set for July 10 at the North Main Athletic Complex in Holly Springs, N.C.
Embry, who has been playing for the Peninsula Pilots this summer, will start at third base for the East squad.
The 19th CPL All-Star Game will feature representatives from the summer league's 15 teams located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
A fan vote selected five players to each squad, while the rest of the players were chosen to the teams by a vote of head coaches, broadcasters and media representatives from each CPL team.
In his first season at Liberty, Embry, a rising redshirt sophomore, played in 28 games as a reserve outfielder, scoring eight runs and driving in three runs. He walked 11 times and posted a .410 on base percentage.
Embry has started all 27 games for Peninsula, this summer. He has hit .344 with 22 RBI and 19 runs scored. He has stolen 10 bases and is fourth in the CPL with a .484 on base percentage.
