Liberty Men's Soccer Announces 2017 Schedule

2017 Liberty Men's Soccer Schedule

Nine home contests highlight a challenging 2017 slate for the Liberty Flames men's soccer team. Four of the nine will be Big South Conference contests.

"We look forward to the difficult challenge in front of us this season," stated Liberty Head Coach Jeff Alder. "Our home slate offers our local soccer community the opportunity to see college soccer at the highest level."

For the fourth straight season, Alder's Flames will open their 2017 regular season schedule by hosting Southern Virginia on Aug. 25 and VMI on Aug. 29 at Osborne Stadium

Liberty's home schedule will also feature non-conference matches against East Tennessee State, 2016 NCAA Tournament participant, Wofford and Marshall. The Flames will host Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Winthrop and 2016 Big South Champion Radford in conference play. Liberty's contest against Winthrop on Oct. 28 will serve as Senior Day, while the Flames close out their regular season schedule against Radford on Nov. 1.

The Flames will have seven contests, six road matches and one neutral site match away from Osborne Stadium. Liberty opens it 2017 road schedule at USC Upstate on Sept. 1, before participating in a tournament hosted by Dayton, Sept. 8 & 10. The Flames will face Fort Wayne for the first time in program history on Sept. 8, before squaring off with host Dayton on the 10th.

Alder's team will face Campbell, UNC Asheville, Presbyterian and High Point on the road in conference action.

Liberty will begin its pursuit of the Big South Tournament title, starting Nov. 5. With the top two seeds receiving byes, the conference's third and fourth seeds will host the fifth and sixth seeds in quarterfinal matches. The winners will then advance to the semifinals on Nov. 8, with the Big South Championship final on Nov. 12. The semifinals and finals will also be played on the home field of the highest remaining seeds. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
