This fall, Azaria Kirwa and the Flames will host cross country meets on campus for the first time since 2008.
2017 Liberty Cross Country Schedule Liberty will play host to the Big South Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28, highlighting the Flames' 2017 cross country schedule.
Liberty will be hosting the Big South meet for the second time in program history and the first time since 2008 at a newly constructed course adjacent to the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Runners will get their first look at the course at the Sept. 16 Liberty Big South Preview, which will mark the Flames' first home meet since the 2008 Big South Cross Country Championships.
The Flames will also contest a pair of races at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. For the fifth consecutive season, Liberty will open its campaign at the low-key UVA Duals on Sept. 1. The Flames will then return to the course Nov. 10 for the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships.
Liberty hopes to make two trips to E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., this season. The team will race in the Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 14, and the venue will also play host to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships for the second time in three years on Nov. 18.
The Paul Short Run is another highlight of the Flames' 2017 schedule, Sept. 29 in Bethlehem, Pa. Liberty men's runners have won the individual title during the team's last three Paul Short appearances, including Josh McDougal in 2004 and Sam Chelanga in both 2008 and 2010. Chelanga's winning 8K time of 23:05 in 2008 still stands as the course record.
The Flames' fifth and final race within the Commonwealth of Virginia will be the Hokie Open, slated for Nov. 3 in Blacksburg, Va.
