TV Coverage and Unique Format Await Flames at The Maxwell

No. 49 Liberty will play its final regular season tournament this weekend when the Flames participate in The Maxwell, hosted by Oklahoma.

The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested on the Oak Tree Country Club – East Course (par 70, 7,102 yards) in Edmond, Okla.

Liberty's final event before the Big South Men's Golf Championship (April 21-23) will have several unique features.

Friday's second round will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Southwest and Fox College Sports Pacific from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. (CST) through Sooner Sports TV.

Chad McKee will handle play-by-play duties, while Golfweek's Lance Ringler and Oklahoma golf alum Hunter Haas will provide commentary.

Sooner Sports TV will deploy 15 cameras and utilize state-of-the-art cell bonding transmissions provided by LiveU to transmit signals back to the SoonerVision studios in Norman, Okla.

Additionally, teams will compete as a group instead of the traditional threesome format featuring one player from three different teams.

Liberty's starting five of Mickey DeMorat, Gabe Lench, Isaiah Logue, Payton Taylor and Kieran Vincent will be sent off the No. 14 tee, starting at 8:30 a.m. (CST) on Friday morning.

The Flames will once again face a challenging field with seven of the 14 teams in The Maxwell's field currently ranked inside the latest top 50 Golfstat national rankings. Besides Liberty, the tournament field includes: Oklahoma State (No. 2), Baylor (No. 3), Oklahoma (No. 13), Colorado (No. 25), Augusta (No. 45) and New Mexico (No. 48).

Logue will look to lead the Flames at this weekend's event, pacing the team with the No. 1 scoring average in the Big South (71.42). The junior was Liberty's top golfer at the Flames' last event (Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship) where he carded a 2-under par 211 (71-69-71) to finish tied for 22nd place.

The Mason Rudolph Championship marked the return to the golf course of Mickey DeMorat, who suffered an injury in December. The junior finished the event tied for 47th place (8-over par 221) and ranks second on Liberty's roster with a 71.47 season stroke average.

Gabe Lench (71.94 stroke average), Kieran Vincent (72.48) and Payton Taylor (74.30) complete the Flames' starting five at the event, the same lineup head coach Jeff Thomas used at the Mason Rudolph Championship.

Friday's competition will feature 36 holes of continuous play, followed by Saturday's final 18 holes of play. Outside of Friday's afternoon TV coverage, Golfstat will provide live hole-by-hole scoring.
