Two of Liberty's six event champions from the outdoor season-opening CSU Spring Break Invitational were honored by the Big South Conference on Thursday. Senior Ryan Davis was named the Big South Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while redshirt junior Jessie Glynn was tabbed the Big South Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Both Davis and Glynn are now two-time Big South Athletes of the Week for their careers. Each was previously honored during the 2015 outdoor track & field season.
Two-time Big South men's 400 hurdles champion Davis opened his senior season with a 400 hurdles victory at the CSU Spring Break Invitational on Saturday. The Deerfield Beach, Fla., native's winning time of 53.09 seconds currently ranks No. 21 nationally.
The reigning Big South women's indoor pole vault champion, Glynn's 2017 outdoor season debut resulted in a 12-5.5 clearance. That was good enough to win the CSU Spring Break Invitational women's pole vault last Friday.
Davis and Glynn are each slated to compete in the FSU Relays, Friday at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla. Meanwhile, some of their teammates will split up between the Raleigh Relays (Raleigh, N.C.) and the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invitational (Lynchburg, Va.) for other Friday competitions.
