The Flames' current homestand is the second longest in program history and the longest since Liberty began play at Liberty Baseball Stadium in 2013.
Liberty opened the stretch by winning the first two games of a three-game set over Bryant, March 3-5, before defeating Duke, 8-4, on March 7. St. John's, ranked as high as No. 9 nationally at the time, won two games of a three game series from the Flames, March 10-11, before the Flames took two of three from High Point in a Big South Conference set, this past weekend.
The longest homestand in school history consisted of 14 games in 1980, during which Head Coach Al Worthington's squad posted a 12-2 record. Liberty's current 11-game homestand will be the team's sixth of 10 or more games in its history. The last time the Flames had a homestand of 10 or more games was in 2005 (10 games).
Artis Tabbed Big South Baseball Player of the Week Liberty outfielder D.J. Artis has been named the Big South Player of the Week for games played March 13-19. Artis hit .500 and posted a .600 on base percentage during Liberty's three-game Big South series with High Point at Liberty Baseball Stadium, this past weekend. The sophomore from Greensboro, N.C., had at least one hit in each of the three games of the series, helping the Flames to take the series, 2-1.
Artis opened the weekend by belting the first grand slam of his career and his first home run of the season, Friday in the Flames' 11-1 victory. On Saturday, the outfielder went 3-for-3 with two walks and scored twice, before finishing the series with a RBI double and a run scored in Liberty's 14-2 win on Sunday.
