(L-R) Amber Bishop and Alexia Taylor were both honored by the Big South with weekly awards on Monday.
After helping the Lady Flames to a 4-0 week, Liberty junior infielder Alexia Taylor and freshman infielder Amber Bishop have been honored with weekly awards from the Big South. Taylor, a native of Oviedo, Fla., was named Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Bishop, hailing from Murrieta, Calif, was voted Big South Softball Freshman of the Week.
This is Taylor's second career Player of the Week honor, as she received the award on Feb. 15, 2016. Bishop earns her first Freshman of the Week award, after being named Big South Player of the Week on Feb. 13. Tori Zavodny was tabbed Player of the Week last week, giving Liberty three conference players of the week in the same year for the first time since 2007.
Taylor had a dominant week, batting .538 (7-for-13) with three runs scored, a double, triple, two homers and five RBI. She slugged at a 1.231 clip, while posting a .571 on-base percentage.
She opened the week by batting 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored in a win over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. She then batted 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored in a 12-0 win at CSU on Friday. In the series finale at CSU on Saturday, a 12-8 Liberty victory, Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, three RBI and one run scored. Her solo homer in the second got the Lady Flames on the board, while she added an RBI single and RBI double.
Bishop stood out for the Lady Flames, hitting .429 with six runs scored, one double, two homers, eight RBI, a .929 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage.
She drew a walk, stole a base and scored a run against North Carolina A&T, Tuesday. She then went 3-for-4 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored at CSU on Friday. Her six RBI were the most by a Lady Flame since the 2013 season, and she is the first Liberty player to hit two homers in a single game since 2015. Bishop batted 1-for-4 with a run scored during game one at CSU on Saturday. She then went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in the series finale at CSU.
The Lady Flames (16-12, 3-0 Big South), currently riding a six-game winning streak, welcome Commonwealth rival Radford to Liberty Softball Stadium for a three-game weekend series. Liberty and Radford will meet for a single game on Friday at 7 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
