Autumn Bishop was named Big South Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Following a standout weekend at the Citrus Classic 1, Liberty catcher Autumn Bishop has been named Big South Softball Freshman of the Week.
Bishop, a native of Murrieta, Calif, is the first Lady Flame to earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors, as the award began this season. On Feb. 13, her sister, Amber Bishop was named Big South Player of the Week, while freshman Elizabeth Engler was tabbed Pitcher of the Week on the same day.
Autumn Bishop helped the Lady Flames post a 4-1 record at ESPN Wide World of Sports, as she batted .412 with three runs scored, one double and four RBI. She also posted three two-hit games on the weekend.
On Friday, she batted 2-for-3 with one double, two runs scored and one RBI in a 7-1 win over Oakland. She then went 2-for-4 with one RBI in a 3-1 victory over Syracuse. Bishop hit 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt on Saturday as the Lady Flames edged Ball State, 2-1. She capped the weekend with a 2-for-4 effort in a 7-0 win over Morgan State. In that game, she drove in two runs and scored once.
For the season so far, Bishop leads the Big South with 15 runs scored, while ranking sixth in both batting average (.386) and on-base percentage (.481).
The Lady Flames head to Auburn, Ala., for the Wilson/DeMarini Classic this weekend. Liberty will take on the nationally-ranked Auburn Tigers on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET and again at 7 p.m. ET on Friday. The team will also face Texas State twice while meeting College of Charleston once.
