Deidra See went 2-for-4 against Oakland on Friday.
Liberty utilized a four-run second inning on the way to a 7-1 win over Oakland to open the Citrus Classic 1, Friday at ESPN Wide World of Sports. With the win, the Lady Flames (6-4) snap a four-game winless streak. The Golden Grizzlies (5-2) split their games on day one of the Citrus Classic 1, downing Ball State earlier in the day.
Liberty outhit Oakland, 14-2, on the afternoon, while the Golden Grizzlies committed two errors.
Julia DiMartino (1-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits, walking one and striking out nine.
Oakland's Haley Zemmer (1-2) drew the loss, allowing four runs on six hits while walking one. Hayley Bartholomew and Kaley Waalkes combined to finish out the game in relief.
Amber Bishop went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Autumn Bishop and Tori Zavodny both recorded two hits and two runs scored. Deidra See hit 2-for-4 for the Lady Flames.
For Oakland, Devon Smith and Rachel Zerona had one hit apiece.
The Lady Flames loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first. Zavodny reached on an error, before Autumn Bishop walked and Amber Bishop hit an infield single. Zemmer escaped the jam, getting a fielder's choice and a groundout.
Liberty stormed out to a four-run lead in the second inning. Taylor Hoffman reached on a bunt single with one out, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base. Sarah Robertson then hit an RBI double, while hits by Zavodny, Autumn Bishop and Amber Bishop followed, producing a 4-0 Liberty advantage. Bartholomew came on to get the final out.
Oakland entered the scoring column in the bottom of the second. Marciniak hit a fly to left that was misplayed by left fielder Hoffman. A sacrifice bunt sent her to third, before Lindsay Lutton hit an RBI groundout to make the score 4-1.
The Bishop twins registered a pair of RBI singles in a two-run Liberty fourth. Zavodny doubled with one out, and Autumn Bishop drove her in, going to second on the throw. Amber Bishop then hit an RBI single for a 6-1 lead. Waalkes entered the circle, striking out Jaclyn Amader and Alexia Taylor.
DiMartino pitched through trouble in the fifth inning. Smith singled on a bunt, going to second on a sacrifice bunt. Smith went to third on a wild pitch, but DiMartino fanned Kelsie Swanson for the third out.
The Lady Flames tacked on a sixth-inning run. Amber Bishop reached on a two-base error with one out. Taylor came through with a two-out single, plating Bishop to make the score 7-1.
DiMartino set down the Golden Grizzlies in order in both the sixth and seventh innings, retiring the final eight batters she faced in the 7-1 victory.
